Teen passenger killed in 2-car wreck

A teen girl was riding in the westbound lane of Bullis Road, in New York, when the car reportedly began to drift over the center line. It moved all the way into the eastbound lanes, and then it slammed into oncoming traffic.

The crash happened right around 11:15 in the morning on Sunday, Jan. 14. Police have not yet revealed who was driving her car or why that person crossed the center line and entered the oncoming lane.

Tragically, the girl was killed in the crash. She was just 16 years old at the time.

Only two cars were involved in the wreck, though five total people were in those vehicles. The other four were hurt in the crash. Their injuries, though they are of varying levels of severity, are not thought to be life-threatening, according to reports from the scene.

The New York State Police Department is carrying out an investigation. While it would not appear at first glance that the opposing driver caused the crash, they still must determine exactly why the first car left its lane and wound up in the path of the second car. The fact that the 16-year-old was a passenger, meaning the driver survived the crash, may help them get to the bottom of it.

Car accidents that result in the death of children and young people are tragic for family members left behind. To help cut back on the financial burden during a very hard emotional time, they may want to know what rights they have to compensation for things like medical bills, funeral costs, lost future wages and the like.
